European White Birch vs Yellow Birch

Yellow Birch is a large and valuable hardwood species in northeastern North America. The bark on its limbs and young trunks is silvery-yellowish in colour, hence the name. This tree prefers to grow in cool regions with damp or saturated soil.

Yellow Birch can be tapped for syrup, like Sugar Maple. Although the sap has less sugar content, it flows in greater quantity than maple trees.

European White Birch is a mid-sized shade tree native to Eurasia. This deciduous tree has a pyramidal form when young, maturing into a rounded crown with arched branches and drooping branchlets.

The trunk is slender, with white bark featuring black diamond-shaped lenticels. European White Birch is an ideal landscape tree for parks and gardens.

Similar to the Cutleaf Weeping Birch, this species is a popular ornamental.
