Winterberry vs Fat Albert Spruce

The Fat Albert Spruce is a cold-hardy evergreen variety with silvery-blue needles, and a large, tear-drop shape. It is deer resistant, and considered a good choice for xeriscaping projects as it is quite drought tolerant.

The Fat Albert Spruce is a Blue Spruce cultivar that was introduced in the late 1970’s by the Iseli Nursery and is named after the fictional character of the same name.

Winterberry is a small shrub that produces large quantities of bright red berries that remain on the plant through the fall and into the winter. Adding this shrub to your yard will give it a unique splash of color and attract birds, especially after the leaves drop.

Note: although the foliage is attractive on its own, you need at least one male plant near your female plants or they won't produce berries.
