Borealis Haskap vs Lowbush Blueberry

Lonicera caerulea Borealis

Vaccinium angustifolium

Borealis Haskap
Lowbush Blueberry

Borealis Haskap is a popular variety of the hardy haskap shrub that produces delicious blue fruit. Haskaps, or honeyberries as they are sometimes called, are excellent for fresh eating and cooking. Borealis is a popular variety of haskap because of its large sweet berries.

It's a very cold hardy, fast-growing shrub that begins producing an abundance of fruit in as few as three years. Borealis, like the Tundra Haskap, does not self-pollinate well. We recommend a 'pollinator' variety, such as Aurora, Honeybee or Berry Blue Honeyberry, be planted at a suitable ratio and proximity to boost fruit production.

Lowbush Blueberry, commonly known as the Wild Lowbush Blueberry, is often wild-harvested and thrives in low pH acidic soil. This early low-bush blueberry produces white and pink bell-shaped flowers in the spring. Its fruit is smaller in size than high bush blueberry plants and is more flavourful with an intense blueberry taste-masking it perfect for fresh eating, baking, and preserves.
