However, in isolated circumstances pesticides are deployed as an extreme measure. These are applied though fumigation rather than directly on the plants. Our primary approach is using good seed and cuttings, proper hygienic growing practices, the use of integrated pest management and the use of beneficial insects. Common detergents (a.k.a. soap) are sometimes applied in diluted form to help control destructive insects, particularly aphids. These, however are non-toxic and of no concern to human health.
