Berry Blue Honeyberry is a hardy deciduous shrub. Its fruit is deliciously tart and perfect for fresh eating or production.
Berry Blue is an early pollinating variety. Pair with other early pollinators to have a higher yield.
Aurora is a great companion variety.
Haskap is the Japanese name for these berries and this term has been adopted for the University of Saskatchewan varieties. In other areas they are more commonly known as Honeyberry which is why we call this Eastern European variety Honeyberry.
Berry Blue Honeyberry (Haskap) - 1 Year Old
Berry Blue is an older cultivar originally developed in the Czech Republic where it was referred to as Honeyberry rather than Haskap. It is vigorous and produces many flowers, making it the preferred pollinator variety for the University of Saskatchewan 'Borealis' and 'Tundra' varieties. However, it's fruit is generally smaller than more recent cultivars, better suited to jams than fresh eating.
We recommend planting a 'pollinator' variety in a ratio and proximity that will maximize fruit production.
