- trellis plants to keep them upright
- keep plants narrowly spaced and well exposed to light
- regularly prune and trellis
- control weeds and conserve moisture in summer with a good mulch

Souris Raspberry - 1 Year Old

Souris Raspberry - 1 Year Old

Developed from a cross between 'Asker' and 'Boyne' at Morden Research Station.

This hardy variety is one of the most commonly planted varieties for commercial fruit production on the prairies. It's sweet-tart flavors lends it to processing in jams and pies, but many eat it fresh too. Tastes better than Boyne and has improved disease and spider mite resistance. Often thought of as an "improved" Boyne.

Despite the average fruit size, this variety is extremely popular with u-pick operations, possibly due to the bright red color and excellent flavor.

Canes grow to 3-5 feet and have fewer short spines. This variety is floricane and produces mid-season.

Commercially these raspberries are often spaced 2ft apart with 8-10ft between rows which uses about 2,000-2,200 plants per acre.
