Hill Poplar
Ussurian Pear (Siberian)

Hill Poplar is a hardy, fast-growing tree with a narrow crown. Hill Poplars function well as a privacy screen or windbreak.

This attractive, long-lived shade tree is a great choice for home and commercial consumers alike, as it requires little pruning or maintenance care.

Hill Poplar has largely been replaced by more desirable hybrid poplar varieties that are more resistant to disease.

Ussurian Pear (aka Manchurian or Siberian Pear) is the most cold hardy of all pear species.

This self-pollinating pear bears white flowers in the spring and has good fall colour, making it an exceptional ornamental addition to any garden. However, it has a tendency to branch quite low and is often used in shelterbelts and hedges too.

Note: the fruit produced by this pear is rather mealy and not a choice edible. It is primarily grown for its attractive flowers and pollination of other pear varieties, or as cold hardy rootstock, but is an excellent addition to any shelterbelt.
